Camp Oakhurst is operated by New York Service for the Handicapped and is accredited by the American Camp Association and licensed by the New Jersey State Department of Health. All campers must provide medical information and be personally interviewed by one of our caseworkers for consideration. Scholarships are available. Year-round overnight respite and day recreation (for Monmouth County adults only) services are also available.
Clients, including children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities, can have a positive experience at Camp Oakhurst. Camp Oakhurst gives our clients a fun-filled summer and off-season program where it's easy to participate in activities, make friends, feel accepted, and gain independence.
Camp Oakhurst, located along the scenic New Jersey Atlantic coast (55 miles from New York City), serves individuals with disabilities that effect movement, coordination, and stamina, as well as youth diagnosed with autism. Children and adults with Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Post Polio, Osteogenesis Imperfecta and similar conditions attend our programs. Campers must possess expressive and receptive communication skills and must exhibit behavior that is appropriate for group living. Individuals who use a wheelchair or who require assistance with activities of daily living are welcome. Most special diets can be accommodated.
